Combining a control surface WITH midi CC learned actions

I did a search on this and i get conflicting information. I have a control surface that currently only has been written code to handle pan, fader, and about 20 buttons with LED support. Other buttons also send out midi CCs, but the control surface code doesnt do anything with them. I want to use those other buttons for actions, using the midi CC learn method. If I try enabling the same midi interface under control surface AND Device/MIDI, reaper complains it can't open the midi IN under Device/MIDI. Things also dont work (control surface does, allthough i get some weird behaviour). I thought that there is a possibility to use the same device as a control surface and also as a midi CC generator. What's the verdict ? Yves

Don't know whether this will be helpful Yves I use my keyboard as combined instrument/control surface. It's only enabled in midi devices and works by altering the global midi channel. So, channel 1 controls whichever effect/instrument has focus, channels 16-14 control vol, pan, mute, solo for tracks 1-24 and channel 11 controls vol and pan for sends (using the js volume utility) this last one is project dependant the others are all project indepedant. There are plenty of spare channels for expansion if (when) I need it. My keyboard is a Keystaion Pro 88 (hate that pro word!) so I can control tracks in blocks of 8. If you can easily alter the global channel you should be able to do the same, but enable the surface in midi devices I think. Hope this is useful, Steve

Would it be possible to split the signal using something like midiyoke? Just thinking, it should be possible to have your main data and feedback going one way and with a filter have cc data going another. As I type this I realise that lack of sleep is catching up. Where would you put the filter!!? There is a germ of an idea here, but I'm going to have to sleep on it.

The surface driver (mcu in my case) silently eats midi events it doesn't recognize. Wish it had a kind of 'pass through'. Trying to reopen that port again with 'control only'..you know the drill. So I have to route: HW-Port->Midi OX->Midi Yoke->reaper (using the same port for surface and control input). Which works. Don't think there's another alternative. Kind regards...Pia Kraft
